Frequently asked questions

How much does Plumber.Consulting cost?

Engagements use the Trades.Agency plans: Growth at $1,999, Elite at $3,999 and Enterprise at $7,999 per month on month-to-month terms, or $1,499, $2,999 and $5,999 per month on annual billing. Prices are in Canadian dollars, plus GST/HST based on the owner's province (GST and QST in Quebec).

Is there a long-term contract?

No. A plumbing owner on month-to-month terms can walk away from the plan by giving us 30 days' notice. Annual billing is optional and simply lowers the monthly price.

Is the first conversation really free?

Yes. For eligible trades businesses that opening half hour is free and sits outside the paid plans. You owe nothing afterwards and are not obliged to continue.

How soon will we see a difference?

Fixes to call handling and estimate follow-up can show up within weeks because they act on leads you already get. Pricing changes show up as soon as the new prices are in use. Marketing and hiring changes usually take two to three months to read clearly.

We hired a marketing agency before and it didn't work. Why would this be different?

We can't promise it will be, but we can make it measurable. We start with a written baseline of your answer rate, booking rate, average ticket and cost per booked job, and every monthly report compares against it. If something isn't working, you will see it in your own numbers.

Who owns the website, ad accounts and data?

Your company. We set up or move every account, including the website, Google Business Profile, ad accounts and call tracking, into your company's name, so you keep it all if you ever leave.

What reports do we get?

A plain monthly report: what changed, what it cost, what it returned and what we recommend next. Once the owner scorecard is in place, you also see about ten key numbers every week.

Will you promise us more leads or profit?

No. Anyone who promises a set number of leads or a profit figure is guessing. We explain the reasoning behind every recommendation and report the real results each month.

Are you a plumbing contractor or inspector?

No. We are not a contractor and we never take on plumbing jobs of any kind. We provide business and marketing consulting, not engineering, mechanical design, inspection or code-compliance services.

Can you help with employment contracts, tax or legal questions?

No. Those need a qualified lawyer, accountant or HR professional. We help with role design, recruiting, pricing models and plans, and we will tell you when a question has crossed that line.

We're a two-truck shop. Is this too big for us?

Not necessarily. Small shops often gain the most from a labour-rate review and better call handling, because every job matters. The free consultation is the place to decide whether the numbers justify a plan.

Do you work in Quebec and the territories?

Yes, we work with owners anywhere in Canada. Our region pages cover each province and the territories, including Quebec's French-language rules for advertising and Nunavut's Inuktut requirements.

Will you talk to my staff directly?

Yes, if you want us to. Call-handling coaching, price presentation and hiring work all go better when we work with the people doing the job, with your approval.

Money and contracts

The short version: plans start at $1,999 per month, or $1,499 per month on annual billing, plus GST or HST by province, with no long-term contract and 30 days' notice to cancel. The pricing page breaks down the three plans and how plumbing owners typically use each one.

A good test before signing with anyone, including us, is to work out how many extra jobs the fee needs to pay for itself. Divide the monthly cost by your average gross profit per job. If the answer looks unrealistic for your company, say so in the first conversation and we will tell you honestly whether a plan makes sense.

What we do and don't do

We are business and marketing consultants for plumbing companies. Our five areas are pricing and profit, hiring and team structure, systems and operations, marketing strategy and growth planning.

We are not a contractor and never do plumbing work. We don't offer engineering, mechanical design, inspection or code-compliance services, and we don't give legal, HR, accounting or tax advice. Licensing and permits are matters for your provincial or territorial regulator, which our region pages link to.

Proof and reporting

Our published case studies are from heating companies, and we label them as results from our HVAC work. They show methods that transfer, such as launching a division or measuring marketing on return. The results page explains each one.

For your company, the proof is your own numbers. Before any change, we write down the baseline. After it, we show the movement every month, in terms you can check against your own invoices and call logs.

Common worries, answered briefly

"I don't have clean numbers." Almost nobody does at the start. We work from what you have, such as bank statements, invoices and your phone bill, and build cleaner tracking as we go. The first month often produces the first reliable picture of the business the owner has ever seen.

"My staff won't like change." Plumbers and office staff usually resist change that is imposed without explanation. We involve them early, show them the numbers, and start with changes that make their day easier, such as a clearer price book or a better call guide.

"I've been burned by a long contract." That is why plans are month-to-month. If the work is not paying for itself, you can stop with 30 days' notice and keep every account in your own name.

"I'm too busy for consulting." Most of the work is done in short, scheduled calls and through shared documents. A typical week asks for an hour or two of the owner's time, often less once the scorecard is running. Most owners find that time comes back quickly, because fewer problems land on their desk unannounced.

Getting started

The first step is the free 30-minute consultation. Have these ready if you can:

  1. Last year's revenue and the number of jobs or billable hours.
  2. Your current labour rate or price list.
  3. What you spend on marketing each month, by channel if you know it.
  4. The one problem you most want fixed.

Rough figures are fine. If you'd like to prepare further, our guides explain how to calculate a labour rate, plan hiring and build a weekly scorecard.

Who you will deal with
