Consulting services for plumbing companies

We offer five services, but you rarely need all five at once. This page explains what each one fixes and the symptoms that tell you where to start.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

Each of our five services fixes a different kind of leak in a plumbing business. The quickest way to choose is to match the symptom you live with every week to the service built for it, then start there. Once that leak is under control, the next one usually becomes obvious.

If this sounds familiar Start with
"We're busy all year and still not making money." Pricing and profit
"I can't find plumbers, or I can't keep them." Hiring and team structure
"Calls get missed, estimates go cold, invoices go out late." Systems and operations
"I spend on ads and have no idea what works." Marketing strategy and oversight
"I don't know if this year is better than last year until tax time." Growth planning and owner scorecard

Pricing and profit consulting

Start here if your trucks are full but your margin is thin. Pricing is the fastest lever because it changes the profit on every job you already do.

We rebuild your labour rate from real costs (wages, burden, trucks, office, insurance, owner pay and target profit), then translate it into flat-rate prices for your most common tasks. We also look at how prices are presented, because a fair price shown badly loses as many jobs as a high one. Details are on the pricing and profit page.

Hiring and team structure

Start here if growth is capped by people. Many plumbing owners could sell more work tomorrow if they had two more licensed plumbers and an office manager.

This service covers role definitions, recruiting campaigns aimed at plumbers and apprentices, interview scorecards, onboarding checklists and a simple career ladder. We don't draft employment contracts or give HR or legal advice; those go to a qualified professional. See hiring and team structure.

Systems and operations

Start here if work is coming in but slipping away before it is paid. The common leaks are missed calls, estimates nobody follows up on, extras that never reach the invoice and slow collections.

We map the path from phone call to payment, measure where it leaks, and fix the biggest gap first: call handling scripts, booking rules, estimate follow-up, job-ticket discipline and field-software setup. Read more on systems and operations.

Marketing strategy and oversight

Start here if you are spending on marketing without knowing what it returns. The goal is simple: every channel should be judged on cost per booked job, not clicks or impressions.

We audit your website, Google Business Profile, ads and review flow, set up call tracking, and decide which channels deserve more or less money. The Trades.Agency team can run the work, or we can oversee your current provider. Details on marketing strategy and oversight.

Growth planning and owner scorecard

Start here if you want to stop guessing. This is the service that ties the other four together.

We build a one-page annual plan (revenue target, job mix, hires, marketing budget) and a weekly scorecard of ten or so numbers that warn you early when something drifts. It suits owners planning a new service line, a second location or an eventual sale. See growth planning.

How the services fit together

The services overlap on purpose, because the problems do. A price increase works better when the office can explain it on the phone. A recruiting campaign works better when the company's reviews and website look like a good place to work. A marketing budget is only safe to raise once the calls it buys are answered and priced properly.

That is why most engagements follow the same rough sequence: fix pricing and call handling, measure marketing, then plan hiring and growth. The pricing page explains how the monthly plans cover this work, and results from our HVAC work show the same method in a neighbouring trade. If you are not sure which symptom is yours, call, text or email and describe your week; that is usually enough to tell.

What every service has in common

Every engagement includes the same three habits, whichever service it starts with:

  • A written baseline. Before we change anything, we record where the number stands today, so you can see whether it moved.
  • One owner per action. Every fix has a named person in your company responsible for it, and a date.
  • Plain monthly reporting. What changed, what it cost, what it returned, and what we recommend next.

We are not a contractor and we never touch the plumbing. Everything we do is business and marketing consulting, aimed at making your company more profitable and easier to run.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hire you for just one service?

Yes. Many owners start with pricing or call handling alone. The plan you choose sets the monthly scope, and we agree in writing which service comes first and what it should deliver.

Which service pays back fastest?

It depends on your numbers, but pricing and call handling usually move gross profit fastest because they improve every job and every call you already get, without new spending.

Do you run the marketing or only advise on it?

Both are possible. Under the Trades.Agency plans the team can build and run campaigns, or we can advise and audit while your current provider keeps doing the work.

Do any of these services involve technical or code advice?

No. All five are business and marketing consulting, not engineering, mechanical design, inspection or code-compliance services.
